C’est une douleur permanente, 24 heures sur 24, qui est usante, autant physiquement que moralement, il y a des jours où je ne quitte même pas mon lit parce que j’ai trop mal et malheureusement dans mon cas, même la morphine ne fait plus d’effet”.
Parfois, le syndrome est plus fort que la volonté de vivre. Els Winne, 48 ans, vient d’être euthanasiée par le docteur Declercq, à Ostende. Pourtant, la fibromyalgie ne tue pas. Et la recherche avance à grands pas depuis quelques années.
Nathalie Roussel, docteur en sciences médicales, fait partie d’un groupe de recherche de l’université d’Anvers sur les douleurs chroniques : “On a su démontrer qu’il y a un dérèglement du système nerveux qui est probablement à l’origine des douleurs chroniques des patients avec la fibromyalgie ainsi que d’autres troubles qu’on pensait inexplicables jusqu’à présent”.
Il y a donc un espoir, même si Nathalie Roussel nuance, on est encore loin du remède miracle.
Mais imaginons que dans 5 ans, on trouve un médicament, le docteur Declercq regrettera-t-il d’avoir pratiqué cette euthanasie sur sa patiente ? : “Non parce qu’on a fait le choix avec tous les arguments qu’on a maintenant, c’est bien possible qu’on trouve une solution, espérons qu’on la trouve dans 5 ans, mais pour ces gens-là, c’est trop tard, 5 ans.”
