Vad är fibromyalgi?

Fibromyalgi är en försvagande sjukdom som beräknas påverka mer än 10 miljoner människor i USA. Fibromyalgi är en komplex sjukdom i den meningen att det är en samling kroniska symtom utan någon specifik underliggande patologi. De två huvudsakliga symptomen på fibromyalgi är trötthet och kronisk smärta. Personer med fibromyalgi kan också ha matsmältningsbesvär, migrän,   depression   och sömnproblem.

Att förstå de grundläggande begreppen underlättar inte förståelsen av sjukdomen, särskilt när det gäller trötthet i samband med fibromyalgi. Trötthet av fibromyalgi är nästan omöjligt att föreställa sig, eftersom det inte liknar andra typer av utmattning som du (eller den person du beskriver) har upplevt.

Nyckeln till att försöka förklara fibromyalgiutmattning hos en frisk person är att hitta något som du kan relatera till och sedan ta ett steg till (eller fem). På så sätt kan de bättre förstå att det de hanterar är långt ifrån känslan att de kan förstå.

Men vad händer om detta inte räcker? Vad händer om personen du pratar med aldrig har haft influensa, apa eller tidszon? Så hur kan du relatera nivån av total utmattning du känner?

Försök att använda telefonens batteri analogi.

Ett annat sätt att förklara fibromyalgiutmattning är att använda en mobiltelefons batteridesign, som aldrig är helt laddad. Oavsett hur länge du lämnar på (hur mycket en person med fibromyalgi sover), når den aldrig en full laddning. När du sedan kopplar från telefonen (vaknar) och börjar använda olika program (försöker utföra dagliga aktiviteter), använder varje program mer batteri. Vissa program använder mer batteriström än andra, och snart går batteriet ut.

Nyckeln för att förklara vad fibromyalgi   trötthet

   känns att göra det klart att det du upplever är mer än att bara vara trött. Alla blir trötta ibland, och en god natts sömn löser vanligtvis problemet. Fibromyalgi är annorlunda. Trötthet som åtföljer fibromyalgi är ren utmattning som inte kommer att gå, oavsett hur mycket sömn. Så för att göra saker värre, när det är dags att sova kan du inte. Denna brist på sömn och utmattning påverkar din förmåga att tänka, anleda och utföra grundläggande uppgifter.

Till slut kan du bara försöka förklara och förvänta dig den person du pratar för att förstå vad som händer. Vissa människor är mer empati och kommer att göra mer ansträngningar för att förstå. Eller, även om du inte kan ta reda på hur du känner, bryr du sig om dig och erbjuder allt stöd de kan.
