El clima y la fibromialgia: cómo ajustar el termostato interno
Es frecuente que las personas con fibromialgia cuenten que cierto tipo de clima o los cambios de temperatura empeoran sus síntomas. Muchos se quejan de tener frío todo el tiempo, o calor todo el tiempo, o de manera alternada. Y es cierto, varios estudios lo confirma: este síntoma se llama sensibilidad a la temperatura.

Es decir: si hace mucho calor, es probable que la persona lo sienta aún más extremo. Su cuerpo lo sufrirá de manera exagerada, con más sudor, más sed, más intolerancia. Eso puede generar que el dolor disminuya, pero también que el cansancio aumente.

Algunas investigaciones muestran una incapacidad por parte del cuerpo para adaptarse a los cambios de temperatura, junto con un bajo umbral de tolerancia al dolor asociada a estímulos por calor y frío.

Es que las personas que sufren fibromialgia tienen un impacto diferente de los estímulos externos: muchos tienen una sensibilidad física extrema a algunas situaciones. Y el clima no es excepción.

La humedad, por su lado, también puede aumentar el dolor en las articulaciones, incidiendo en el estado general del paciente.

Es importante ajustar la vestimenta y la calefacción para prevenir estos cuadros, y también tenerlos en cuenta cuando planean vacaciones y sentirse bien se vuelve clave para la persona y su familia. El frío difícilmente sea un buen aliado.

Recomendaciones para días de calor:

Consumir los alimentos y bebidas frías
Usar un paraguas para dar sombra
Usar una visera en lugar de un sombrero
Usar ropa holgada y ligera, hecha de un material transpirable
Evitar los baños o duchas calientes
Darse un enjuague con agua fría antes de salir y antes de dormir
Prender el auto y el aire acondicionado un rato antes de salir, lo suficiente para refrescar el auto
Si utilizas un abanico o aire acondicionado, evitar que soplen directamente hacia vos.
Las personas sensibles al frío se sienten congeladas hasta los huesos y les cuesta mucho poder calentarse
Recomendaciones para días de frío

Es importante tener en cuenta que en las personas con fibromialgia el cuerpo no es capaz de adaptarse adecuadamente, por lo que los pies se mantienen fríos, e incluso ponerse calcetines gruesos puede no ayudar a calentar los pies; por lo tanto, el ambiente tiene un mayor impacto en el cuerpo. Algunas ideas para evitar que esto ocurra son:

Mantener los pies cubiertos durante el tiempo frío
Vestirse abrigado (sin embargo, vestirse demasiado caliente puede desencadenar los síntomas de la sensibilidad al calor)
Tomar bebidas calientes
Comer alimentos calientes como sopa y avena
Calentar el auto antes de salir de casa
Mantener el ambiente cálido y agradable
Tener cosas como mantas y zapatillas a mano
