We have all been exhausted and sore after an intense day on a physical and / or mental level and we know how good it feels to rest or sleep and recover, with new energy to face any task.
Can you imagine that it did not happen, that when you woke up you felt the same, or even more tired, than when you started the rest? It is a very simple image, but it can give us an idea of what this complex disease entails that involves a major biochemical disorder .
A person suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is permanently exhausted, without strength and generally suffering pain, something that makes it very difficult to maintain a good quality of life.
The Spanish Society of Internal Medicine ( SEMI ) considers that chronic fatigue or asthenia can be mentioned, when fatigue and lack of energy lasts more than six months and indicates that it can reduce 50% or more the capacity to perform, with Normality, the simplest everyday actions.
Symptoms, causes and treatments
The origin of this disease is diverse and not always clear. Some alteration in the immune system, dysfunctions in the muscular or neuromuscular system, presence of some pathology of oncological character, can be behind this ailment, but not always is a concrete reason that explains that fatigue and that pain .
For this reason the Spanish Society of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ( Sefifac ) insists that this is a disease in itself and as such should be treated .
This society emphasizes that the pain and fatigue caused by the syndrome is twofold, on the one hand physical and on the other social because not in all cases the difference between a logical tiredness or a pain caused by a specific circumstance and chronic fatigue is understood , which is incapacitating and difficult to diagnose.
In this sense, different associations of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have recently expressed their rejection of the guide published by the INSS on this and other diseases because they consider that some of their recommendations, such as the practice of gradual exercise, are not the most appropriate for people who suffer from this pathology.
The disease can affect anyone, although its appearance is more frequent in adulthood, between 40 and 60 years. In addition to extreme tiredness, other symptoms that may be associated are sleep problems , frequent headaches, as well as in the muscles and joints (fibromyalgia), lack of appetite, difficulty concentrating and memory deterioration …
As for the treatments, the investigations continue to find one that is effective. The use of drugs against pain and recommendations on habits and healthy diet are some of the solutions that try to alleviate this syndrome with which to live every day, is really an effort.
