25 signs that you grew up with fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a mysterious disease and its diagnosis is also in the same category. For the most part, people who have fibromyalgia are not diagnosed until middle age, many can track their symptoms until their childhood.

You feel more exhausted and tired in your class, the PE seems to be a torture for you or, often, you experience what your doctor calls “growing pains” or Mono. But if this is your “normal” growth, it can take many years to recognize that the pain, fatigue, brain fog or touch sensitivity you have become accustomed to is actually indicative of an underlying health condition.

We asked our community “Living with fibromyalgia and chronic disease” a question to share some of the signs that they grew up with fibromyalgia, which they now recognize in retrospect. Maybe the following will return some memories of your own childhood, and you can also relate it.

Here is what the community shares with us:

1.   When I was 11 years old I suffered terrible pain in my legs. I could not walk and I was hospitalized for a couple of months. They could not figure out what was wrong. The pain decreased and I was able to walk again.

2.   I was always getting sick, I missed school a lot and I was very clumsy. I had monkey when I was a teenager. I fell several times and had broken bones and sprains.

3.   Always sick when I was young, insomnia, migraines, endometriosis, always had cold hands and feet.

4.   I never had resistance like all my friends, I always slept all weekend while my friends were out playing. I had migraines, leg and arm pains. My mother said she was depressed by an abusive alcoholic stepfather and a biological father who was only around when it was convenient for him. I would overheat so much that others were fine. I constantly had ear infections and UTIs that the dr could not understand.

5.   If the leg pains on the server during the night always said they were growing pains, like my sister, we both have fibromyalgia to the point of needing a wheelchair and other immune problems like an adult. Another member added that yes, I too … like a child, I would cry all night because my legs ached … I would take a hot bath … The Dr. said that they hurt more and more.

6.   I knew nothing but fear. He knew fear and humiliation. My mind was constantly running with ideas of how I could hide. I would get up at night and get into my brother’s room to sleep. Very tired. Waking up in the morning I am a bear. I felt high, fatigue all the time. I had a little headache. I have pneumonia a lot. A lot if this could have been depression. Barbaric home, sexually abusive. Terrible anxiety.

7.   When I was a child, I had a terrible pain in my legs and the doctors called the growing pains and gave me big “horse pills”. None of my 6 brothers suffered with this. Also, I could never sleep like the others and I started having extreme insomnia at 14 years old.

8.   Sensitivity to light and sound as far as you can possibly remember.

9.   Depression, anxiety, always hurt or sick, unable to keep up with the school (when I was smart enough), I slept like a dead person like a teenager, fatigue and pain that could not be explained, stress would induce illness, lack of emotional regulation, early onset of puberty. I’m sure the list goes on.

10.   My first symptom was a very intense pain in the front of both legs, from the knees down. He started at 15 years old. I also had very heavy and painful periods. I had growing pains in my legs since I was 5 years old. I suffered from sunstroke and migraines from an early age.

11.   Horrible leg pains. My sister and I sometimes rolled on the bed in pain. They told us it was a growing pain. I only have 5 ‘. My sister, although I know, does not have fibromyalgia. But I do. I was also sick often. Endless sinusoidal infections, horrible headaches, diagnosed with TMJ at 15 and signs of ibs as well. I was also very clumsy and hurt me often. They told me I was a hypochondriac. I often had to put a brace on my wrist, ankle or even knee.

Sensitivity to sounds too. The fireworks were unbearable. It was like an electric shock. Physically painful! My dad was so angry he had to take me home. Everyone thought I was scared and I did not understand when I said the boom hurt me. They told me again that I was a hypochondriac or that I only wanted attention. I have had horrible sleep patterns all my life. Even as a baby. I also had cramps and I read somewhere colic related to the nerves.

12. With   terrible chronic pain everywhere, they found scoliosis at 14 and blamed all that. My legs always got tired much faster than my friends (what happens to me, I walk and I ride my bike and I’m in good shape like my friends, why do I need a nap?) Chronic migraines, I could never develop the strength of the upper body, no matter how difficult it is. tried. To this day, I have never been able to push or lift.

13.   Back pain, I always thought it was normal to have pain, I thought everyone had pain. It turns out that I was wrong, also sensitive to the cold, I have always hated winter and could never explain why I now realize that my pain and symptoms increase.

14.  Definitely muscle spasms. In my legs, feet, neck, back, ribs and arms. I had problems with my swallow. Headaches . TMJ. I almost always had nausea. He vomited every day. I still do. Depressed and stressed. Our home life was traumatic.

15.   Very painful legs from birth, then began to have painful feet around 6, irritable bladder problems started in early adolescence, general pains in the body and pain before 5 years. Then, at the beginning of the 30s, terrible migraines started that upset me until I was 40 years old. The painful ones ended after a pneumoencepholgram, now I only have the optical problem migraines. My life now never ends pain, fatigue and frustration.

sixteen.  Having itching attacks during the night; Mom would bathe me in camphor to help him stop. Often, while sitting at my desk from 3rd to 5th grade, I felt a non-existent error crawling on my arm or leg

17.   Chronic pain in the legs just before my period and just when I started to get sick, and also when it was cold outside. I always attributed it to my cerebral palsy, but now I do not know. I also had back pain when I raised my arms for a while, like washing dishes for example.

18.   I would give this horrible flu symptoms … I would have to go to bed … When I woke up the next morning, I was ready to go. This would happen at least 2 or 3 times a week. I thought I was tired … ugh

19.   Bad “growing pains”, horrible stomach and sensitivity to sounds / textures (I had to put the bands on the seams of my socks, cut off all the labels on my shirts and pants, hate the turtle necks, make me hair hurts, etc.) I had serious ear infections as a child and needed tubes, but I do not think that was related
