• Hørselstap på grunn av høye lyder

•  Meniere sykdom, en indre øreforstyrrelse som innebærer hørselstap og svimmelhet  

• Konsumet av alkohol, koffein, antibiotika, acetylsalisylsyre (aspirin) og andre legemidler kan også forårsake ørelyder

• Tinnitus kan presentere med hørselstap. Noen ganger er det et tegn på høyt blodtrykk, allergi eller anemi. Sjelden er tinnitus et tegn på et alvorlig problem, som for eksempel en svulst eller en aneurisme.

Tinnitus kan maskeres med andre lyder: musikk med lavt volum, tikkende klokker eller andre lyder kan hjelpe deg med å ikke legge merke til tinnitus. Buzz er ofte mer merkbar når du legger seg om natten, da omgivelsene er roligere. 

Enhver lyd i rommet, for eksempel en luftfukter, en maskin som produserer ensartede lyder eller en vifte, kan bidra til å maskere tinnitus og gjøre det mindre irriterende.

• Lær noen måter å slappe av. Stress forårsaker ikke tinnitus, men føler seg stresset eller engstelig kan gjøre det verre

• Unngå koffein, alkohol og tobakk

• Få rikelig med hvile

• Prøv å sove med hodet hevet i forhøyet stilling
