Why does fibromyalgia hurt more at night?

When a kick in pain at full speed? For some it is early in the morning, sometimes at random, but for most fibromyalgia, the pain seems to amplify during the night. You already know the routine: try to be social and stay with a friend for dinner, but you need to go home earlier because you are in agony.

Or it really worked today and it manages successfully to block the pain throughout the day, but now that you’re at home, it seems like all the pain you should feel as if it were happening now. Sleep is not an option at this time. You stay lying down, playing if you can, with tense muscles and more pain than you can remember.

Of course, there are other nights when the pain is not so intense. So what’s up? As always, a daily diet and activity can be useful in determining if there are specific triggers that seem to exacerbate the pain.

WebMD offers a possible reason for what appears to be a rarity: “Research shows that with fibromyalgia, there is an automatic excitation in the brain during sleep. frequent interruptions prevent the occurrence of important restoration processes.

Growth hormone occurs mainly during sleep. Without a good night’s sleep and increased growth hormone, muscles can not heal and neurotransmitters (like serotonin) are not replenished. Lack of sleep one night causes people with fibromyalgia to wake up feeling tired and tired. The result: the body can not recover from the tensions of the day – everything that oppresses the system, creating a great sensitivity to pain. “That sounds like a vicious cycle.

Some speculate that at the end of the day our minds are beginning to disappear when we concentrate on rest, which makes us more aware of our pain of fibromyalgia. However, conventional wisdom says that at the end of the day our minds were inundated with information collected by our senses and processed in our brains and bodies.

Actually, that is the reason why we have to sleep at night to be able to process everything we absorb and refresh our bodies. Therefore, this flood makes us less clear at night. Compare with the clarity you have the first time you wake up every day. What seems to be a much more reasonable conclusion is that the organism itself becomes fatigued only with the activities of the day.

Therefore, in the evening, it takes much less time to stress the muscles and create more inflammation. In fact, although it may seem like an exaggeration, the muscles of patients with fibromyalgia can be slightly compared to rigor mortis in that the muscles always contract. Since fibro patients usually can not relax their muscles.

Since patients with fibromyalgia almost universally struggle with good and restful sleep, WebMD now offers advice to facilitate better sleep, especially for fibro patients:
Take a relaxing soak during the night (as long as you have the energy to enter the bath) .

I witch your body with a sponge or a long wire brush in the bathroom (your ability to do this may vary from day to day, given your level of pain).

Facilitate sore spots with an automation device, such as a tennis ball.
Practice yoga or other stretching exercises to relax (Amazon offers several yoga options on DVD specifically for fibromyalgia).

Listen to relaxing music (Pandora has a station called “Calm and Meditation Radio”, which sounds the same as what you hear in a spa during a massage).

Meditate to calm intrusive thoughts and tension.
Sleep in a dark room (consider a mask for the eyes, if necessary).

Keep the room as quiet as possible (or use a white noise machine or fan to drown out subtle sounds).

Make sure that the ambient temperature is comfortable.
Avoid foods and drinks that contain caffeine, which include tea, soda and chocolate.

It seems that there may be a variety of reasons for the pain of fibromyalgia to increase the night, but all of them point to the muscles as the main player.

Again, try a journal that accompanies basic food activities and for a month or more and see if you encounter any problems or a common trigger. Also try the list of suggestions here, knowing that there will be no days when only one of the suggestions is an impossible task. It simply does what it can and comp.
