Le débit sanguin cérébral des fibromyalgiques serait altéré et cette modification pourrait être responsable des symptômes de la maladie.

Les patients touchés par la fibromyalgie affichent des changements dans le flux sanguin cérébral, selon les résultats d’une étude publiée dans la revue médicale PLoS ONE. Ces modifications du débit sanguin cérébral pourraient être la cause des symptômes douloureux et émotionnels liés à cette pathologie.

Les chercheurs de l’Universitat Politècnica de València (Espagne) ont mené une étude avec 30 femmes, dont 15 touchées par la fibromyalgie pour comprendre l’impact de la maladie sur le débit sanguin cérébral. Le cerveau des participantes a été observé grâce à une technique de doppler transcrânien, une méthode non invasive de diagnostic par ultrasons qui observe les changements du flux sanguin en analysant sa vitesse cérébrale dans les principaux vaisseaux.


Les résultats de cette expérience ont montré que les patientes fibromyalgiques affichaient des niveaux significativement plus élevés de dépression et d’anxiété que les témoins en bonne santé, des scores significativement plus élevés d’intensité de douleur, et un flux sanguin cérébral perturbé, surtout dans l’hémisphère gauche.

« Ces anomalies de CBFV se révèlent significativement associées aux scores de douleur clinique et de troubles émotionnels » explique le professeur Tembl, du département de neurologie et auteur de l’étude.

Ces conclusions pourraient suggérer que traiter les anomalies cérébrovasculaires contribuerait à réduire certains symptômes fibromyalgiques, mais elles doivent être confirmées par des études de plus grande ampleur.

La fibromyalgie affecte entre 2 et 5% de la population française. Les symptômes sont reconnus comme « un état douloureux musculo-squelettique spontané diffus bilatéral évoluant depuis plus de 3 mois associé à la présence d’un minimum de 11 points tendino-musculaires sur 18 répertoriés”. Fibromyalgie veut dire “fibro” pour tissus fibreux,

tendons ; “myo” pour muscle ; “algie” pour douleur. »
